Japan from the air.

q1

Flying back into Japan on Wednesday I was able to get a few decent shots. This first one is somewhere in north Kyushu.

q3

Kyushu has a lot of active volcanoes, and I've studied maps to try and find which one this is, but couldn't be sure. If anyone knows, please let me know.

q4

Kochi City on the south coast of Shikoku.

q5

Somewhere in eastern Shikoku.

q6

In the middle of Awajima, descending to land at Kansai Airport.

  1. Hi Jake,

I just wanted to express my thanks for your great blog work. I discovered you here only recently but have greatly enjoyed browsing your archives, which seem to be a wonderful reference resource. Your curiosity about Japan is inspiring. I have always felt the urge to explore the backwaters of this fascinating country at leisure but have not had the time. Now I can enjoy such exploration precariously through your adventures and chronicling.

Your photos are superb. What a great eye for a composition you have! I would be interested to know what camera/s you use.

I recognize that building up a blog like this is a labor of love, though a lonely one at times, and I wanted to let you know of my appreciation.

    With kind regards

  3. Excellent photos (as usual :) )

I'm pretty sure the 2nd photo is Mt. Aso. I can't think of any other active volcanoes in Kyushu that are spewing up that much steam. Sakurajima is also active but surrounded by water, so it rules out that one.
